Also attended: Councilman Mackey, Councilman Hawk, Mayor Schwab, Kris King, Ray & LaVonne Heitger, Village Administrator Robert Pauley
Meeting was called to order at 6:00pm by Finance Chair, Councilman Hilliard. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss elected officials’ pay increases. The council and the mayor do not receive pay increases while in office. They cannot receive a pay increase until their next election. Discussion followed that council has only received one raise in the past 12 years. Councilman Hilliard said we’ll start with the council and he feels that $250 a year for the next four years would be a sufficient increase. Council now makes $1320 annually and this would increase it to $2320 but it would take four years to get to that amount. Discussion followed that the soonest anyone would get an increase would be in 2016 and would only include 2 councilmen. The other 4 councilmen will get raises starting in the year 2018. Mr. Hilliard stated that an ordinance would need to be drawn up but it would be a good idea for everyone to just think about this for a couple of weeks.
Regarding the mayor’s pay increase, we may want to look at bringing the mayor up to $1000 a month so that he will qualify for PERS benefits. Annually, the mayor makes $7200. Councilman Fox thinks it should be stepped up annually for 4 years. Councilman Hilliard feels it should be a one time increase so the mayor will qualify for benefits his first year in office.
The clerk wage increases should be set up for a 4 year term. The clerk has more responsibilities than the ORC requires. Councilman Hilliard and Councilman Mackey agree that the clerk deserves a raise like the rest of the village employees received. We will discuss this with the village attorney at the regular meeting.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:25pm.
