The meeting was opened at 6:00 by Councilman Godwin.  The meeting was called to discuss the 2017 projects completed and the goals and plans for 2018.

Police Station roof is 20 years old.  The estimated cost is $14,000-$16,000.  A metal roof was discussed and Godwin brought up putting a car port to help keep the parked vehicles out of the weather.

Bimeler Park had the benches extended on Field #1, a sycamore and seven maples were planted down by Field #2, and at Field #4 the fence topper has been replaced and two sycamore trees were planted.  The plans for 2018 are to remove the volleyball area and put in some workout equipment.  Hilliard doesn’t want it removed and he wants to see the prices on a couple pieces of equipment.  The fence toppers need replaced on Fields #1, #2, and #6.  Fields #2 and #4 need the benches rehabbed with M1.  Four red oaks will be planted.  Councilman Godwin would also like to see at least one drinking fountain, a map at the entrance, and a cold beverage machine located at the Police Station where it can be under camera surveillance.  He also discussed a book exchange.

Witting Park had two sugar maples planted in 2017.

Sabo Disc Golf Course had some holes realigned and the tee boxes were concreted in 2017.  There were parking stops installed to rectify some parking issues.  There were eleven trees added to the course.  Signs will be added to each hole showing the layout and benches will be added to the course in 2018.

Field #5 had fencing added to each baseline and the fence topper replaced.  There were 3 maples replaced along the road.   There was a discussion of adding benches between the trees to stop parents from parking so far into the grass and tearing it up.  Then only parallel parking along the road would be possible.

Councilman Hilliard talked about taking the batting cages down because they look bad.

VA Miller talked about Safe Routes to School.  He has applied for a grant and is waiting for the results.  He would like to build on this and have all the parks connected with a walking path.

VA Miller discussed talked about grants to preserve open space.  The grants are available with a 25% match if awarded.  He talked about the old gun club and adding more walking paths.

6:30 PM meeting Adjourned.
