Mike Schwab, Council Member (arrived 6:40)

The Mayor turned the meeting over to VA Miller.

VA Miller started out by stating it’s been pointed out that he is not doing what he should be doing even though he has meeting minutes that state that he was doing a good job and to keep up the good work.

He has been getting quotes for the unhealthy and dangerous trees, having them removed and cleaned up after then having an appropriate tree planted to replace it.  Now he has to alert the members of the Tree Board and have them tell him what they want done even though he has 40+ years of experience.  The Tree Board doesn’t have his expertise.  Up until now he has been putting a plan together to present to the Tree Board for their approval and then following through.

Council Member Hilliard asked how much was in the tree fund $22,500.

There are three trees on the west side of Wabash from R&R Junction to 4th Street that have been slated to be removed and replaced.  There are six trees on the north side of Huron that need the same.  The sidewalks will also need repaired or replaced.

Council Member Hilliard asked if there would be any trees planted in the park.  Specifically, the Ginko in the triangle near the left field line on Field #2.  VA Miller stated there wasn’t enough open ground for the tree to get the nutrients that it needed.  VA Miller has looked at a tree from Clinton Nursery for an Arbor Day planting.

VA Miller stated there are four pear trees between McKinley and Wabash on 6th Street SW that need removed.

Mayor Hawk stated that the Tree Board needs to review the ordinance and do some possible tweaks including adding another member to make it an uneven number of members.  He suggested a work session for the Tree Board members.

Meeting adjourned at 6:46 pm
Respectfully,
