Council Member Mackey opened with discussion on the possibility of adopting new and comprehensive rules for Council.

The new rules will be an edited form of the existing Council Rules from an Ohio Village that were found online.  These rules would be tailored to fit the Village of Brewster.  They will provide a new comprehensive point of reference for this Village Council and hopefully all of the Village Councils in the future.

A discussion was held among all the members of Council, the Mayor, the Village Clerk-Treasurer, and the Village Administrator.

The discussion addressed many issues concerning the rules of Village Council; The reason for rules, the purpose of the individual items included in the rules, how Council Rules act in protecting the Village Government and  it's citizens, the need for adopting a new format for the current rules, and how the new rules will help Village Council perform it's duties in a more efficient and concise manner.

The question was asked if we should pursue this new project.  It was agreed that the new format was a step in the right direction and that the work should continue.

As the project continues, all members will have input into this new set of rules, including our Village Solicitor.  We want to make every effort to see that the final product will be an asset that our Village government can effectively use both now and in the future.

The work will continue and more meetings will be held on as needed basis until completion.
