PARKS AND GROUNDS COMMITTEE MEETING
JANUARY 21, 2012
6:30pm
Mayor Mike Schwab
Chairman Dave Duff
Council/Board Member Sherri Bichsel
Council/Board Steven Tharp, Jr.
Councilman Tom Hilliard
Councilman Jay Huff
Clerk-Treasurer Kris King
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Dave Duff.
Chairman Duff stated the meeting was called to discuss a proposed Police car garage.
Huff stated we need to look for money. For cosmetic reasons, he will only agree to an addition to the existing building. He asked if it was possible to use a stall at the new electric garage.
Duff suggested giving the Street garage to the Police Department and build a pole building at the Sewer Plant. Our guys could build a pole barn structure. He stated it could be done for about $50,000 and half of that would be concrete. He stated he just wanted to put that out there.
Huff stated we need a way to come up with the money and build onto the PD building.
Bichsel asked what the old Fire Station is being used for. There is a fire truck, boat and trailer, and exercise equipment.
Hilliard suggested a temporary awning.
King stated that was brought up before and it was stated at that time that being it is on the west side of the building, the snow would just blow into the area and build up.
Tharp asked if it needed to be done now? Could this be something for next year?
Huff stated that it didn't need to be done immediately but they are concerned about car #2 with all the new equipment.
Godwin asked if Perry had a garage for all there cars. They have all the same equipment.
Bichsel asked if Capital Projects could be used to build the garage. King stated it could.
Huff liked Bichsel's idea and set aside $ 60,000 now and come up with the other $ 70,000.
Godwin stated the quote for the building should actually cost within $1,000 - $1,500 of the quote, this is not like the road quotes.
Schwab stated a stand alone for $ 40,000 to $ 50,000. It could be put behind the Street garage.
Tharp stated we have to look towards the future and make sure there is enough space for the recycling and parking at the park.
Godwin suggested it be put where the police park there cars now.
Huff asked if an oil collection would be required.
It was stated that the Mayor offered to pick up te garage plans. The cost would be around $300.
Hilliard asked where the money would come from. Someone replied Capital Projects.
Duff stated the cost factor would have to be looked into.
Meeting adjourned at 6:54pm.
Respectfully submitted,
