                          Street Committee Meeting Minutes 8/22/13

 

Called to order: David Godwin

Figures were provided to council.  Based on the 2012 figures, the1/3 tax would have produced $232,842

80% of residents will not pay the income tax.

We don’t want to not be able to reciprocate on the taxes.  (Making the residents pay both Brewster and where they work.)

Councilman Godwin opened the floor.

Mayor wants to makes sure residents know 80% of the money comes from people who live outside the village limits.

Tharp stated to wait to see if House Bill eliminates special ballot. There is usually a larger turnout of people that support the tax on these ballots.

Huff stated when you have a town hall meeting usually you only get those that support the issue out.

Tharp stated the residents need to know all the good things it will bring.

 Godwin stated we need to put together a nice list of the past 5 years of street improvements and storm sewers improvements.

Hilliard wants the mayor to put together something to highlight the work that has been done on the roads.

Godwin stated the roads are in ok condition now but with the money running out they will be going down hill.

Godwin stated the residents need to know the tree fund is just not to plant trees but to maintain them with spray and trimming.

Godwin wants to fix the old areas before new constructing would start.

Town Hall Meetings will be Oct. 3rd and Oct. 22 at the FriendsChurch on Main Street.
