March 18, 2013 - Street Committee Meeting

                                            Street Meeting 3/18/13

Called to order: Godwin at 6:30 p.m.

Godwin opened the floor to discussion.

Tharp-Would like to hear from those opposed what changes would be required to make them support the levy. Only changes would be adding the sidewalks. The vast majority of the tax payers are out of town. This is the best selling point. We need to get it out in a town hall style meeting.

Godwin -18% of the money would only come from residents! And most of the time if they work out of the village in other towns already pays more.

Tharp- how much does TreeCity cost?

King- Nothing.

Hillard- how do we decide who get new side walks?

Mayor -we discussed quadrants.

Huff -a lot of people were upset because Cleveland had been repaired!

Godwin- would ask all council to look at the streets we are repairing before they sit at the table and vote I voted no on Cleveland Ave. last year because it wasn’t our priority!

Huff -would like to add the trees at a smaller percentage.

Godwin- all levy money taken in needs to be spent wisely on improvements and shouldn’t be saved since it is ear marked for repair and there is a lot of curbs, streets, sidewalks and storm sewers that need attention.

Duff -we need to try to pass it with trees.

Godwin- I can compromise to get this passed as long as we all are behind it.

Godwin- asked is all in favor of the ordinance with the trees added back to which all five answered in the affirmative.

VA.- Stated he would email council his street list for 2013

Meeting Adjourned 6:57 p.m.
